Make sure to arrange time off from work or school to rest after your surgery. You’ll receive post-operative care instructions at your appointment, so be sure to ask any questions you may have.
If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must be present. If you're receiving Sedation (Oral, IV, or Nitrous), please have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid wearing jewelry or contact lenses on the day of your procedure.
Fill any prescribed medications ahead of time and take them as directed. On the day of surgery, take any necessary medications with minimal water.
There are various types of Anesthesia used depending on your procedure and comfort level. Below are the different options that may be used for your surgery. Each type requires specific preparation, so please review these guidelines carefully.
Local Anesthesia: Eat a light meal several hours before your appointment. You may drive yourself if you're only receiving Local Anesthesia.
Oral Sedation: Do not eat or drink for 6 hours before your appointment. Have someone drive you to and from the appointment.
Nitrous Oxide: Eat a light meal before your appointment, but you don’t need someone to drive you unless your procedure is more extensive.
IV Sedation: Arrive on an empty stomach. If your appointment is before 1:30 PM, no food or drink after midnight. If it's after 1:30 PM, you can have a light breakfast, but no more than 6 ounces of water, apple juice, or black coffee. Someone must drive you home after the procedure.
